This is the one we've been building toward.
Thursday 19th March. 6:30pm. Online. Four wines arriving at your door the day before -100ml of each - and here's what's in the box:
2021 Bourgogne Aligoté, Sylvain Cathiard
Aligoté gets written off as Burgundy's second white. Cathiard makes you feel stupid for thinking that.
2021 Cuvée de la Mesange, Saint-Romain, Domaine Ponsot
Saint-Romain sits just far enough off the main drag that nobody's paying attention. Ponsot has been paying attention since 1872.
2019 Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Regional Burgundy with no right to be this good. The Ser Duncan argument, in a bottle.
2014 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fournaux, Chandon de Briailles
A decade in. Biodynamic farming, a vintage the market ignored because everyone had already moved on to 2015. Their loss.
No Grand Cru. No famous appellations. That's deliberate. These wines are chosen to prove the point we've been making all month: the label tells you about the potential. The producer tells you whether it's been realised.
Everything will be available to buy afterward if something lands well. Several of these aren't straightforward to find at retail.
£50 covers the samples and the session. Spaces are limited because the wines are.
Any questions just ask!
Mike
